As a South African Infantry Lieutenant in the counter-insurgency Angolan Bush War, originally cut his teeth as a young lad in the early 80s on table top war gaming. Over the years, he has played every war game on every platform available.

Playing WWII games, Johan became particularly fascinated with the Vietnam War, especially the air mobility and counter-insurgency aspects. His commitment to and interest in this war grew and eventually Johan managed to personally visit all of the major battle-sites of the conflict.
